Peekafish privacy policy

Last updated: 9 September 2026 · Back to the app page

This policy covers the Peekafish app for iOS and Android. The short version: Peekafish collects no data. The long version follows — in plain language, so parents can read it in two minutes.

2. What Peekafish is

Peekafish is a timing-skill game for children aged about 4 to 9: the pond spins, the fish open their mouths, and a tap at the right moment lands a catch. The app is intended for the Kids category on the App Store (age band 6–8) and the Families programme on Google Play and follows their rules: no ads, no chat, no accounts, and purchases or external links only behind a parental gate.

3. What data we collect: none

Peekafish does not collect, store or transmit any personal data. There is no user account and no sign-in, no analytics or statistics tools, no advertising networks or ad SDKs, no chat and no child-created content that others could see, and no access to location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos. The app does not ask for tracking permission and does not read device identifiers.

Everything the game needs is inside the app itself. It works fully without an internet connection; even leaderboards such as the Reef League or the daily pond are computed on the device against named computer rivals. Nothing is sent to us.

4. What stays on the device

So that the game continues where it left off, Peekafish stores the following only locally on the device:

  • the nickname and avatar the child chooses
  • game progress: levels, stars, gems, fish caught, the aquarium, Boop’s book
  • up to four fisher cards, so siblings on one device keep their own ponds
  • settings such as sound, music, tips and difficulty
  • optional reminders: at most one a day, and only if a grown-up switches them on behind the parental gate — they are scheduled on the device, no server is involved

This data does not leave the device and does not go to any cloud storage of ours. Whether the operating system includes app data in the device’s iCloud or Google backup is governed by the device settings and by Apple’s or Google’s privacy policy.

Deleting: the settings have a "Start over" button that erases all game data on the device; the grown-ups corner can remove individual fisher cards. Uninstalling the app removes it completely as well.

5. Purchases in the grown-ups corner

Peekafish is free, and everything in the game can be earned by fishing. In addition, the grown-ups corner offers gem packs, sets, the gem jar and the Gold Tide Pass as one-time purchases. The child only sees a neutral “Grown-ups” button and no prices; the corner opens only after a typed arithmetic question (the parental gate). A switch in the same corner hides purchases on the device completely.

Payment is handled by the respective store: Apple via the App Store, Google via Google Play. We receive no payment details, no names and no addresses. To match purchases to the app, Peekafish uses the RevenueCat SDK. It receives the store’s purchase receipt and a randomly generated, anonymous app user id that is linked neither to a person nor to a device identifier. RevenueCat receives no personal data; the SDK serves purchase processing only, not analytics or advertising.

Content already bought can be unlocked again via “Restore purchases” in the grown-ups corner, for example after changing devices. Apple’s Ask to Buy and purchase approval in Google Family Link work in addition to the parental gate.

6. Children’s privacy (COPPA, GDPR Art. 8, GDPR-K)

Peekafish is made for children. We knowingly collect no personal data from children — nor from adults. Because nothing is collected, we need no parental consent under the US COPPA or under Art. 8 GDPR, and there is nothing we could share, sell or use for advertising.

Parents and guardians stay in control: all game data can be erased with a switch in the grown-ups corner or removed by uninstalling the app. If you nevertheless believe the app has received a child’s data, please write to the address below — we follow up on every report.

7. Third parties involved in the app

Only three companies come into contact with the app, and only for distribution and purchase processing. Their own privacy policies apply to their processing:

What data the stores process when the app is downloaded (such as the parents’ store account) is outside our control and is described in the linked policies.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR) and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Austria that is the Datenschutzbehörde. Since we hold no data about you or your child, the usual answer to a request will be: there is nothing on file. Do write to us anyway if you have questions.

9. Changes

We update this policy when the app changes — for example if a later version adds optional friend features. Such features would only be switched on behind the parental gate, with their own explanation of what would then be stored. The current version is always available at this address; the date at the top shows when it was last updated.
